The Vetala

The Vetala (? - ) is a powerful entity that exists on the material plane.   In the depths of history there was a conflict between the Vetala and the unified races of Elves and Dragons. At the island now known as Chixulub Unos the Dragon-God and Valnar the First Mage are said to have performed an arcane ritual using Trinity Crystals to bind the Vetala into an artefact known as the Vetala Sword.   For an unknown period of time the Vetala was trapped within the sword, which also contained the Suuta and the Lich Escus. The significance of the Sword was gradually forgotten, and it resided in a vault on Solonor for many years. In 483 AQ it was stolen during a raid on Solonor by the navy of Levinas. The soldiers of Levinas brought the weapon, along with many other stolen treasures, back with them to the Levinian city of Kristallnacht. The sword was put on display at a museum celebrating the victory of Levinas over Correlon.   The city of Kristallnacht was the site of an outbreak of a plague that turned its victims into zombies. The confusion and chaos caused by this event weakened the nation of Levinas and Farrah invaded the country. At the forefront of this invasion was The Advengerers (PC Group). The entered the Museum and stole the Vetala Sword. They carried it with them and into proximity of the Crystal of Power. The Vetala, through the crack in the gemstone, was able to harness the power of the Crystal to break itself free. In the process a crack was left in the gemstone on the sword.   The Vetala was free, but left without a corporeal body. It wandered the world for many years, and began to possess mortals in order to work its will. It sought a way to restore its body.   in 490 AQ, by deception and subterfuge it gathered the Trinity Crystals and brought them to Chixculub. Unaware of its true nature, the government of Farrah made a deal with the Vetala to assist it in return for all of the Trinity Crystals. With the protection of monsters and mercenaries it began a ritual to restore itself to full strength. This ritual was interrupted by Holy Aos and his Gith army assaulting the island. While Aos and the monsters battled The Advengerers, now aware of the threat posed by the Vetala, snuck to the centre of the island. They did battle with the Vetala and heroically laid down their lives to destroy the human body it was inhabiting. Aos' assault was successful in slaying the mages performing the ritual, and the Vetala's plan was foiled.   In 519 AQ Vetala made another attempt to restore itself. With the aid of the Adamantium Lord (DT) and the Grey Company of Unified Esteria it invaded western Farrah, laying siege to the city of Quisling. The Vetala raced to claim the city and the powerful magic within as the Triple Alliance attacked Chixulub and began a ritual with the Trinity Crystals to rebind it.   The forces of Farrah including the Razors of Quisling (PC group) and the B Team (PC group) defended the city of Quisling, doing all in their power to buy time. Many lives were lost on both sides but the Vetala was able to storm the city and ascend to the top of Ecthelion's Tower. There it used Ecthelion's light to grant itself a body.   As it did so the forces of the Triple Alliance completed their ritual and pulled the Vetala to the centre of the island. The Triple Alliance's spell was completed expecting a formless, weakened Vetala. Instead they met a much more powerful foe. Elite soliders of the Gith, Correlon, and Farrah, including the Queen's Blade (PC Group) did battle with the Vetala, but were unable to defeat it.   The Vetala escaped the Triple Alliance's trap. It vanished from the island. Since that day it has remained elusive, whatever works it is undertaking hidden from sight of its many enemies.   Rumoured vulnerabilities:   • Cannot stand the sound of music • Cannot abide by bronze • Fire destroys its form • It cannot interrupt a holy prayer • A line of salt will hold it back       Campaigns appeared in:
