Quill Tower

Quill Tower is actually the name for a complex with six buildings in Scarroton: five wings surrounding a central, imposing tower, connected through underground passageways and surrounded by lush parkgrounds (and a sturdy well-guarded fence). This structure was comissioned in 405 and finished in 410 AFF, with remarkable speed for its time. This was of course all part of the idea behind it. Quill Tower was intended to be a marvel of architecture and design, as well as a display of economic, social, and political strength of Concordia. From the moment of its grand opening to the present, it has been the seat of the Concordian presidency and legislation.

The design of Quill Tower was very clearly based on the Concordian flag. Of course the flag was originally depicting an abstract symbol for Castle Scarecrow, the strongest defensive structure Concordia had at the time, surrounded by a unifying magical ward. In old design drawings, now on display in the Quill Tower Museum, the architects attempted to encase the entire complex in a large glass dome, just as on the flag. This idea was however dropped. President Ardrinn explained why during a speech in 408: "This is not because its construction or maintenance would be too costly, but more because we would want the ward to remain symbolic. It will be felt, through the people, not made concrete with glass and metal bars. The beating heart of Concordia does not reside in a cage. It will be open to all, welcoming of nature as well as culture, as our ancestors have for generations."

In the near 200 years since its construction, Quill tower has had only a few alterations and renovations. Its defenses were updated to meet new threats, for example when it was nearly destroyed in a terroristic bombing attempt from Grezan guerrillas. It remains, however, as sturdy as it has always been, and one of the most recognizable and marketed landmarks of the country.
