Humans

"What is he? A human? Boring!" - Flogga, sand goblin slaver

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humans share their basic anatomy with a host of other species - ancient elves, dwarves, halflings, goblins, orcs and others - al believed to be descended from ancient halflings. Old World biologists coined the term "humanoids" to refer to this family of species, not because humans are most biologically representative of the group (that distinction clearly belongs to the halflings), but rather because they didn't like the idea of one of the other species doing it first.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Although omnivorous like most humanoids, humans share the ancient elves' weak, single-track digestive systems. Due to this peculiarity, most humans cannot eat raw meat, which must be cooked to eliminate bacteria, or food that has been spoiled by natural or magical means. Additionally, poisons that are ingested are not neutralized in the esophagus as with orcs and dwarves.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Due to their affinity for magic, human civilizations have always relied upon magic for survival. The success they have historically been able to literally conjure up led to the early formation of empires which expanded across the world. Today humans inhabit every continent, but population centers include the Zarion Empire controlled territories of Llerys, New Padrya, and the Sea of Muses, as well as the Guildlands, and some regions of the Dearth.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

With highest propensity for magic of all the humanoid races, humans often become more powerful spellcasters with less training than other species. This also makes them more susceptible to magical conditions such as transfiguration, teleportation sickness, and forced astral projection.
