Bounty Report: Search the Wharf

Bounty Task:

Search Warestone Wharf for signs of evidence of smugglers, including potential hiding spots, caches, and travel routes.

Searching the Boardwalk

The party immediately begin to search around the wharf, with Lumi spreading their wings and flying to the top of the Worm Whisperer Tackle shop to get a better vantage point. When they get up there, though, they came face to face with a scout waiting on the roof for them.

Battle Report

Enemies:

  • 2 x Smuggler Captains
  • 2 x Smuggler Scouts
The smugglers come out of their hiding spots under the boardwalk, where they had been lying in wait to ambush the search party.   The party make short work of one of the captains and the scout nearest the tackle shop, before moving to the opposite side of the wharf, and capturing the second captain. The last scout, who had been perched on the far end of the wharf taking potshots with his bow, tries to escape in the rowboat.   With a combination of Grizz's disguising magic, and Finn's water control, they manage to distract him and bring him back to shore, where they capture him along with his captain.

A Talking Crate

On their way back to shore with their captives, Grizz hears a voice inside a nearby crate. They open it up and find Attila Brushthorn inside. He had been captured by the smugglers a few days prior, and shoved inside the crate.   Having met Finn a few weeks prior, he trusts her enough to tell her what he knows - he saw the smugglers using a secret tunnel to get from the wharf into Stonewill Barracks. He shows the party to a false crate set in the side of the dock.
He turns and points to a large crate nearby... tucked right into the corner of the boardwalk. The front surface is stamped with DOMINION BREWERIES. The bottom right corner has the insignia of an olive branch on fire.   "It's a doorway. No one opens it cos it just looks... like a crate. But look." He reaches behind the front edge of the wood and slips his finger into a hidden mechanism, and the front of the crate swings open, revealing a constructed tunnel.

Questioning the Hostages

The party take a little time to question the Smuggler Captain, who seems to have very little information to share. They claim that they are only paid to make drops of shipments, at which point they leave. That night, they were paid to lay in wait for the search party.   They tell the party that they don't know the name or face of who hires them. They don't ask questions.   The party takes this information, as well as a coded letter they found on one of the dead scouts, and returns it, and their hostages, to Volane Bearheart.
