True Name

A person's true name is a group of words in Celestial that summarize that person's existence. Knowing something's true name gives you power over it. This collection of words encompasses a persons complete being including their: needs, passions, drives, fears and so on.

Learning a true name

Learning one's true name, or the true name of another individual, one should reach true enlightenment, understanding the individual to it's fullest.
When a person tells another their true name, it is the greatest gift they can possibly give. It is a symbol of complete trust and intimacy between two beings. This is normally done between lovers under the Elves.

Changing a true name

A person's true name can be changed and in doing so a person gains freedom from all past commitments they made using their previous true name. In other words, if a person were to promise something using their true name, and their true name changes at a later date, then the promises no longer hold them since they are essentially not the person who made the promise anymore.
In order for one's true name to change, their personality must change in a significant manner.

When the true name of an individual is spoken out loud, no matter on which plane they reside, the individual undergoes the uncomfortable feeling of being dropped in an ice cold lake.

All Elves that reach their adult stage, take a journey to learn their initial true name. If it changes afterwards, it is up to the individual if it wishes to pursue the knowledge of their new true name.
