Favont
Favont is a country of tiers.
The Magi, powerful beings who can control aether, live in splendour and are showered with respect.
Lingering in the shadows are Nightwalkers. They were human or Magi once but have chosen a path of immortality that comes with lengthy military service.
The middle class, the humans, fill all the spaces in between, constantly trying to better themselves but aware that their lower species will always hold them back unless they choose immortality or succumb to the horrors of the tier below.
Finally, at the bottom are the slaves. They were free once, seven years ago, but the percentage of the country living in poverty was so extensive that the Magi decided that the only way to help these destitute souls would be to give them homes and work (the quality of either not determined when first proposed). Making up over half the population, they form the backbone of the country and can be found in all places.
Secretly, though, the enslaving of the people, known as the reconstruction, was meant to eradicate a species the Magi did not want living in this land, the so-called natives, also known as the Ananans. Their language, culture, and faith are not Favontille. They are wild, magical creatures posing as people, but they are dangerous and untamed, and to the disgust of the Magi, great survivalists.
