West Tolona
West Tolona is the the land marked by the fallen body of Felialma. The modern-day country now sits in the north of the Tolona Peninsula and boosts a great relationship with its neighbour and sort-of-twin East Tolona, though the two regions share a historical rivalry started over 2000 years ago.
Because West Tolona has the cat-deity Felialma as its patron, cats and their feline relatives enjoy god-like privileges and are adored by most of the population. The country's symbol is a cat, the flag features the picture of a cat, and the Presidential Palace is known as Cat's Lair. West Tolona does not do "subtle" when cats are concerned.
The capital of West Tolona is Monteria, a historical place that exists since the first settlers came to the region over 3000 years ago. It has grown much since then, swallowing smaller villages like Oviexo until it concentrated over a third of the country's population.
West Tolona still carries visible marks and memories of the last Catharxis, the End of the World. Ruins of that time are preserved and turned into museums, touristic attractions, and mandatory stops for school trips. Oviexo has one of the largest and most "complete" set of ruins from 2000 years ago, which attracts its fair share of tourists from much further than the Tolona Peninsula.
Structure
West Tolona is governed by a president and a congress with elections every 4 years. The president lives in the Cat's Lair and is expected to also take care of the 30 or so cats living within in.
Assets
West Tolona is safe within the Tolona Wall and has long prospered from the valuable jewels it contains. The country also boasts active ports and an a lively tourism industry fuelled by cat-lovers worldwide.
History
West Tolona was once part of a larger settlement called simply "Tolona". Settlers from the Torrercan Empire crossed the Tolona Peninsula and founded their first colony in Monteria. 1400 years later, Tolona had grown so much it had two guardian deities: Felialma and Canispirito.
Then, at the first Catharxis, Felialma and Canispirito turned against one another, and Tolona was divided into East and West. The two new countries took a thousand years to mend their relationship, but have since enjoyed strong ties that transcend the old cat versus dog rivalry.
Demography and Population
Foreign Relations
West Tolona's main partner is their neighbour East Tolona. After 2000 years divided, the two nations feel like an extension of one another, culturally, economically, and even socially (cats vs. dogs debate aside). Talks of reunification have popped up in the past, but were never carried forward due to the old legacy of Felialma and Canispirito. The deities may be asleep, but nobody wants to risk waking them up again.
Education
The school system was developed by Maria Petrello and is the pride of the nation. The Butterfly education system is regarded as the best in the world by leading educators and is slowly being implemented across the globe.
