The Legend of Kami
"In the beginning, three warriors were given a vision by the goddess Kami telling them that at the top of the mountain is where one can find the wisdom to live a happy life. The warriors, each from separate lands, traveled from very very far to reach the base of the mountain. There, they saw each other and learned that they weren’t the only ones trying to find the wisdom that Kami promised. They each thought Kami spoke only to them, but now seeing the two other warriors, this turned the path to happiness into a race. A fight to see who would get to the top first. The warriors fought for days, each equal in strength. None backing down. Trying to reach the top. Days of nonstop fighting turned to months, months turned to a year. On day 400, the three warriors collapsed. Each had reached their limit. Exhausted, wounded, and ki expended, it was then that the three warriors questioned why they fought at all. They realized that Kami never spoke of whoever reached the top first, only that they must reach the top. They realized that the only way they could reach the top was to work together. And so they did, each using their own unique skill to traverse the difficult terrain. Helping each other, instead of fighting. Once the warriors reached the top, they saw Kami meditating next to a hot spring. “Learning to work together to complete a common goal is the wisdom that you seek, and you must now use this wisdom in your next task.” “Protect the mountain. At its heart lies a shard of great power entrusted to me by the gods of five. Evil searches for this shard. Now, I leave it in your hands and the hands of your children for as long as you can. Protect the mountain and the forests that surround it, and in return they will protect you and those you love.” The last of her words echoed across the mountain too as the Kami slowly vanished, her presence merging with the mist coming off the hot spring. And so the three warriors did protect the mountain and the forest surrounding it. They brought their families and their families’ families, and the lone warriors grew into three great clans. They divided the forest into three parts, each part being protected by one clan. There was Clan Yoshikaita to the North, Clan Timberkai to the south west and Clan Kazemaru in the South East. Each had their respective ways of living and each clan respected and helped each other whenever needed. As time and time passed by, each clan grew and learned new ways, new traditions. The clans loved the forests and its mountain, and in return the land loved them back. They used only what they needed, and in return the forests gave back tenfold. The clans learned the ways of druidcraft and each began to nominate an arch druid as its leader. Each clan dedicated themselves to the circle of life, taught to them by Kami and protected that cycle of life on their lands. Clan Yoshikaita protected birth and the giving of new life. Clan Kazemaru protected death and all that comes with it. And Clan Timberkai was tasked with protecting what lies between birth and death."
