Torryn Songheart

Torryn Songheart is a member of the Ring & Wren.

Personal History

Torryn Songheart is a half-elf raised by entertainers. His mother and father (both half-elves) were members of a traveling bard troupe and accomplished in some minor magics. Torryn and his sister, Tilana, were raised by their parents and the fellow members of the entertainment troupe. Eventually their parents retired to a small town where they performed at the local taverns, their traveling days behind them. Torryn and Tilana still thirsted for adventure, so they set off on their own to explore the world, learn its secrets and histories, and to seek fame and fortune.   The siblings did well for themselves for some time, relying on their talents and the tricks their parents taught them--until tragedy struck. Torryn and Tilana found themselves in a rough spot and sought the aid of a guild of thieves and cutthroats. They worked for the guild for some time to repay their debts, but the siblings found the work weighing on their souls and sought to run. The guild caught them and took Tilana away from Torryn, despite his pleas to punish him, not her.   Upon her return, Tilana could no longer speak, or--perhaps more importantly--sing. Torryn brought Tilana to a local temple to seek healing, but they neither had the coin to pay for treatment, nor did the clerics know what was wrong with her. Torryn was enraged at what happened to his sister and swore vengeance against those who crippled her.   Infused with a holy power from his oath of vengeance, he single-handedly raided the guild's headquarters and slew its members. He returned to Tilana, but crashed into the realization that his actions could not save her. He was visited by a high ranking member of the temple who introduced herself as a paladin of The Mother. The woman, a human named Kharryn, promised that if Torryn swore himself to The Mother's service that the goddess' followers would do all in their power to find a cure for his sister.   Torryn agreed and trained with Kharryn for a year while he and Tilana lived and worked in the temple as aids. Torryn was pushed to his limits physically and mentally by Kharryn, who knew there was a special purpose for this young man. After a year of training, Kharryn claimed Torryn to be ready to seek The Mother's purpose.   Torryn traveled alone and climbed a mountain to reach a holy site dedicated to The Mother to learn what his purpose would be. At this site he received a vision from the goddess herself and was given a sword that represented his role as the Herald of The Mother. On this spot, Torryn swore his oaths to protect the weak and vanquish evil using his unique collection of skills and power. He returned to the city to find his sister had been taken from the temple in his absence. Perhaps not all of the guild members were dead...

Oaths

"I am the voice of the silenced, the mouthpiece of the muted melody, the orator of the tale of the downtrodden. I am the Herald of The Mother, whose justice shall be fast, fierce, and fair. My oaths are these:   Vanquish the Greater Evil: There is no Greater Evil than those who would silence and oppress their fellow man. These Evils must be vanquished above all others.   No Mercy for the Greater Evil: Those who impose the Greater Evil shall receive no mercy. Lesser evils may be forgiven, but the Greater Evil must be exposed and overcome.   Others Over Self: My personal reservations will not cause me hesitation in taking action against the Greater Evil.   Recompense: Any foul deed enacted by one acting in the name of the Greater Evil under my watch is my responsibility, and I shall repay any who are hurt or lost because of my failings in preventing the Greater Evil.”
