Roasted Copper Eye

Copper Eye snakes were a traditional part of the cuisine of the tribes living in The Hollow Expanse, though their consumption has fallen out of favour during the rule of the Fenixian Empire.   Snakes are never served to the Families within the City of Fenixia, as it is considered common and something from their history. Those servants who maintain the outer holdings will eat snake when they have no other option. Which is more frequently than they'd like. Especially since the Family Council took over the running of the Empire after the passing of The Final Emperor.

How to roast

  1. Remove the head
  2. Skin and gut the snake
  3. You can either cut into short pieces and skewer them all on the same stick, or wrap the snake whole round the skewer
  4. Hold over the fire until charred on the outside, which should take about fifteen minutes for an average copper eye
  5.   Depending on the size of your snake and the temperature of your fire, you might need to adjust the cooking time.
The snakes can be cooked over a fire, which is easy to do when travelling the desert, or across the Hollow Expanse. They can also be fried or baked. When no fire is available, the dead snake can be buried in it's skin under a shallow layer of sand and left for a day. As long as they are undisturbed by other predators, they make a fine meal. The skin needs to be cracked off, and then the flesh is succulent underneath.
