After a war of gods and forces of their level, the world was sundered and only the strongest of the races were able to survive the final battle, seeing this blight on the world the Gods that were victories decided to bring back the life that was lost but in new forms, before this time elves were described by the dragons to have joined them in the sky, giants said the dwarves were made of stone and many over races were made or brought back in new forms to fill the new land with life that was once there.
