Party Ball

"God dammit—fuckin' . . . threw it in my eye," Brom spits out between his clenched teeth, body bending at the middle as he presses his face into the crook of his elbow. Mabel stands beside him owl-eyed and panicked, Amos howling with laughter and banging his hands against the kitchen table. Tiny specks that twinkle like shattered glass settle on the wooden floorboards, dusting Brom's black hair a pearly silver.
"I'm—I'm so sorry! I didn't know!" Mabel says as she conducts her hands aimlessly, the edges of her mouth trembling into a grin.
Amos flails in his chair. "The fuckin' sound! Bufff!" Brom glowers at him with one bloodshot eye, sparkles dripping from his beard like clumping pollen. "Right in your dumbass face!"

Anatomy

Lovingly referred to as "funballs" by Mabel, Party Balls are a unique type of flower found growing near the ribs of Old Man Canyon. Typical from a distance, these flowers develop on thick ferns in humid, shaded areas. During the day, the flowers close and begin producing masses of sparkling, clumpy pollen. When the sun sets, the flowers bloom and spread twinkling dust into the air "with surprising force". This twinkling pollen can be bottled into small, glass 'bombs', but closed flowers can be used on their own with minimal bindings.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Party Balls are used predominantly by Brom and Amos when hunting, providing a unique way of tracking and marking prey in the dark. Amos claims they could be used to see invisible spirits, but Brom thinks the idea is stupid and wouldn't work. Mabel enjoys using Party Balls for other activities, often ones revolving around her throwing them at other people.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Party Balls are said to be a byproduct of the Devil living within Old Man Canyon and are highly taboo, religious people often equating their name with other indecent terms. Unlike most under-the-table commodities, Party Balls are particularly hard to come by and even harder to bring up with merchants. The fear surrounding Old Man Canyon makes gathering the flower difficult, few men willing to traverse to the bottom where the flowers grow largest. Merchants sometimes take offense at the mere notion that they would risk their lives over such a ridiculous weapon.
