Kuld

Amidst the rugged beauty of the southern Western Mountains lies the quaint dwarven mining village of Kuld. Sheltered south of Umberglow, Kuld embraces the elements with its sturdy stone houses, their sloping roofs defiant against the region's harsh winters. As smoke gently rises from the chimneys, the village exudes a warm glow that contrasts the wintry landscape. Operating in sync with the local mine, aptly named "Frostiron Mine," Kuld revolves around the extraction of precious raw materials destined to fuel Umberglow's industries. Within its unassuming charm, Kuld embodies the resilience and industrious spirit of its dwarven inhabitants.

Demographics

Kuld is a tightly-knit community predominantly composed of dwarven miners and their families who work at the Frostiron Mine. With a strong sense of camaraderie, the village thrives on the collective efforts of its industrious inhabitants. Dwarves of various ages, from the seasoned miners to the growing children, form the heart and soul of Kuld, forging a close-knit society bound by their shared labor and heritage.

Government

In Kuld, the village's government operates in a dual system. For day-to-day affairs, local matters, and worker disputes, the leadership of Frostiron Mine assumes responsibility. This ensures that the mining operations and the well-being of the community are efficiently managed. However, for more significant issues and matters beyond the village's scope, Kuld turns to the authority of Petty King Bronzeblood in Umberglow. As the ultimate governing figure in the region, the Petty King oversees and addresses broader concerns that may impact Kuld and its residents. This dual governance structure ensures a balance between local autonomy and higher-level decision-making, promoting a stable and harmonious environment for the dwarven community.

Industry & Trade

Kuld's primary industry revolves around the prosperous Frostiron Mine, owned by the wealthy dwarf entrepreneur, Durgan Stonehelm. The mine is the lifeblood of the village, producing vast quantities of raw iron ore, which forms the foundation of Kuld's economy. Miners, most of whom are residents of the village and their families, toil diligently within the depths of the Western Mountains to extract the precious mineral. Once the raw iron ore is extracted, it undergoes meticulous processing to ensure its quality and purity. Then, it is prepared for shipment to the nearby city of Umberglow, a prominent hub of commerce and trade. The steady supply of iron ore from Frostiron Mine plays a pivotal role in fueling Umberglow's industrial capabilities, contributing to the creation of various metal goods, tools, and weapons.   Durgan Stonehelm oversees the operations of Frostiron Mine with great expertise, ensuring that the miners are well-equipped and motivated in their labor. Under his shrewd guidance, the mine's output remains consistently high, cementing Kuld's reputation as a reliable source of iron ore. The thriving mining industry sustains the livelihoods of the dwarven population in the village, providing income to the community.

History

Kuld's history traces back to the visionary ambitions of Durgan Stonehelm, a determined and enterprising dwarf. Approximately five decades ago, Durgan founded Frostiron Inc., a company with the vision of establishing a thriving mining operation in the Western Mountains. Setting his sights on potential lands for purchase, Durgan stumbled upon a seemingly desolate section of rock and snow just south of Umberglow.   Unbeknownst to the land's previous owner, this seemingly barren plot was a hidden treasure trove rich in veins of iron ore. Recognizing the tremendous potential of the discovery, Durgan wasted no time in seizing the opportunity. He assembled a small team of skilled laborers, enticing them with promises of stable employment and secure housing.   With perseverance and hard work, Frostiron Mine began its journey, extracting raw iron ore from the depths of the Western Mountains. As word spread of the employment opportunities and the abundance of resources, Kuld slowly began to flourish. The mining hamlet grew as more laborers and their families settled in the area, drawn by the prospects of a better life.   Over the years, Kuld's population swelled to over 40 laborers and their families, making a close-knit community of around 70 residents. To accommodate the growing populace, several small but sturdy stone houses were constructed, each built to withstand the harsh winters that swept through the region. The village transformed into a bustling hub of mining activity, centered around Frostiron Mine, with Durgan Stonehelm at the helm, overseeing the hamlet's remarkable progress and prosperity.
