The Material Plane and Echo
The Material Plane is our home plane, where most live and die. Few people ever venture beyond this realm. However, if one does, it's most often to the mirror plane or the Otherrealm, also called the otherworld, the oddworld, the shadow-world, the shadowfell, or the feywilds. Scholars are not sure why it exists. However, many believe that the fey are beings of the far realm. The fey were believed to be the first lives that walked this plane that was neither divine, nor made by the divine. They are "those that walked before" and thus must maintain their immortality in a realm that befits their existence. Therefore, their realm becomes an echo of the material plane. Within the otherrealm are many "demi-planes," or smaller planes that are home to different beings. The Seelie and Unseelie court each have their own realms for example. The Shadowfell is the name of one such demi-plane found within or near the Unseelie Court. The otherrealm is a place of potent magic and either vibrant life or darkest shadow. Life is more prominent and lush in some places, and more bleak and full of undeath in others. Each place that is mirrored is a more extreme version of the material plane. The Inner Planes
There are four main inner planes known as Elemental Planes and in the middle is a world of chaos. The inner planes make a three dimensional space that blend together, so while you can transport yourself to the plane of water, you could travel from water to fire without having to plane shift again, though planeshift does allow for easier travel. Between the main elemental regions are the intermediate border realms of magma (fire and earth), lightning (fire and air), ice (air and water), mystic (a realm of ooze and plant life between earth and water), dust (air and earth), and steam (fire and water). Water is seen as an element of creation, Fire as an element of destruction, Earth as a representative of corporeal-ness , and air as a representative of incomporeal-ness.Transitive Plane
Scholars have recognized a transitive plane known as the Astral Plane which is how one access the Outer Planes. With the exception of death, one must be able to traverse the astral plane to travel to Hell, Heaven, or the Ethereal Plane. Most often, only disembodied spirits can travel through, as bodies are tied to the material plane. This plane is also known as the world of Dreams (or Mesekai as the Elves call it and Makoce as the Wanagi call it). Some people briefly enter this world, or can enter states of lucid dreaming or trances that are in pocket areas of the astral plane, while others learn to fully step into the astral plane.Outer Planes
Three main outer planes spread away from the material plane (which is considered the center). Other representations show the material as an outer plane that rotates with the others around the inner plane. Either way, many consider that each of the outer planes hand the material plane, were crafted by the essence of three elements. This is not to be confused with the elements themselves as the material plane clearly as air. Nor does it mean that these things cannot exist in the plane, but rather were not central to its original construction. The Material Plane is the embodiment of the corporeal, creation, and destruction. It is where people live, grow, and die, where things are made and destroyed.
The Ethereal Plane is the embodiment of the incorporeal, creation, and destruction. It is where souls go after the death of the body to await judgement. It is also known as the Spirit World.
The Hell Plane is the embodiment of the corporeal, incorporeal, and destruction. It is where the physical forms of demons and dark gods live and where the souls of the dead who have been claimed by such beings are taken and destroyed. Hell is known for having 9 Circles or Winding Layers flowing down. Each has either its own Lord of Hell, or "Arm of Hell" as represented by the Inequities of the Nine. The Circles are as follows:
- The Gateway (this is not an actual circle but an important entrance of which flows the River of the Dead. It is where The Guardian carries souls through to rest in hell.
- The First Circle: This is where Sloth sits. It is a place of apathy, and inaction. Those that watch cruelty and do nothing.
- The Second Circle: This is where the Lord of Lust sits.
- The Third Circle: This is where the Lord of Gluttony sits in mud and filth, guarded by a Cerberus.
- The Fourth Circle: This is where the Lord of Avarice resides with the hoarders and wasters.
- The Fifth Circle: This is where the Lord of Wrath sits.
- The Sixth Circle: This is where Heresy sits. It is also the edge of the City Dis, a great city that holds the rest of the Circles of hell, descending lower into a great pit of darkness.
- The Seventh Circle: This is where Violence sits. It is made up of three districts that intertwined in a great lamborianth guarded by Minotaurs. Those rings represent Violence against neighbors, violence against self, and violence against the world. It is home to the demons of Murder, Rape, Slaughter, and Genocide.
- The Eighth Circle: This is where Fraudulence sits. It is made of 10 rings which represent Panderers, Seducers, Flatters, Simoniacs, Pact makers, Barrators, Hypocrites, Thieves, Deceivers, Sowers of Discord, and Liars or Slanderers.
- The Ninth Circle: This is a great frozen lake that continues to descend down and contains 4 inner rings or levels. It is where Treachery sits. The other rings represent treachery of the family, treachery to the country, treachery to guests as a host, and finally treachery to Lords of the Divine.
