Arden

The demography of Arden is split between its indigenous people and, more recently, large swathes of lords from Capital looking for new land; colonists, if you will. The tension between the two is almost enough to start a war, yet the indigenous people of Arden are more agrarian than industrious, and are in no way centralized, thus a war does not spark.   As for culture, the indigenous like to keep isolated for the most part, though they aren’t against outsiders—besides colonists. Their ways are peaceful, pushing for anything that serves toward their communal benefit. Most of the natives live in dirt mounds or stone-brick huts; felling trees for wood is near sacrilege to them. However, they will take whatever has already fallen or died.   The trees, to the indigenous, are not quite sacred, but instead seen as equivalent to any living man or woman. Only when they are no longer alive are they seen as fit to plunder. So goes the ancient Arden phrase, “Waste nothing that is dead.”   And of worship, there is no small share! Though where the regions more often worship divines, the people of Arden more often worship their Norn, Ard. The specifics of the religion vary depending on the account—so much so that there’s not enough consistency to put to text. Though with the colonists, religion is as it is in Capital. As is their zealousness. “No man can stop progress.”   Trees are common in Arden. Approximately 70% of the region is forested, the other 30% being plains and hills. Swamps, as well, are in no way rare. For the most part, Arden is temperate, though it borders on sub-tropical the closer one gets to the Crown Sea.
