The Ether
The Ether is both a dimension and a source of magic. Within the Ether exists the Elemental Ring, and within that, the Material Ring. Yet, the Ether surrounds all it encompasses, thus it is accessible from any plane therein. In a sense, each of these planes exist almost as a second layer, the Ether being their foundation and seed.
Ether bleeds into whatever it touches, and there's vestige of it throughout all of the Great Sphere. And even though it doesn't radiate completely throughout, it is still considered the lifeblood of the universe.
When visited, the plane appears bluescale to the unfamiliar eye. The soul, not the flesh, is how every living thing is seen. It's because of this, at least in part, that the Ethereal Plane is thought to be where souls originated.
Visitation to the Ether is often due to travel through its presence around a world of the Material Plane, called Ethereal Halos. These Ethereal Halos, also known as Border Ethereal, surround Material worlds almost entirely. In some places, the Border Ethereal might be stronger; in others, weaker. The most common travel throughout is the 'phasing' in and out of the Ether, such as with the use of a Blink spell. However, a strong enough mage would be able to use these Halos to reach other worlds, or even other planes.
When in the Border Ethereal, movement is conjunctive with the relating Material manifestation. That is to say, if you move five feet forward in the Prime Material, you move five feet forward in the Ether (and vice versa).
