Vykha
The Vykhan men and women who live far enough away from the River Black are nomadic; excellent survivalists. Those who do, however, live on the bank of the River, house themselves in buildings made of sandstone. They are a mercantile people, though they’ve learned to protect their treasures with both sword and shield. Of the five norns, Vykhans have one of the largest militaries, second only to Llenst’s.
And much to their fortune, Vykha does happen to be the largest trade partner of Capital’s. While Llenst has the largest navy, Vykha has the largest fleet of all the five Kingdoms; albeit they’re mostly merchant vessels.
An apt quote, “You’ll never meet a greedy Vykhan. Why? Because they live and breathe trade. Greed is bad for character; bad for business.”
A Vykhan child grows up learning the ins and outs of peddling and barter tactics. Yet, some fall behind the curve. Vykha’s impoverished population sees almost no relief.
In fact, the situation is bad enough that if one begins to fall on hard times with a negative outlook, they’d often rather kill themselves than try to be optimistic. Because it’s really that unlikely that things will turn around for them. There are also many Vykhan emigrants that are left with bitter tastes in their mouths, exactly for this reason.
But Vykha makes both themselves and Capital rich. Thus, many of the lords of Capital and many of the lords of Vykha are in good favor with each other.
And while the layman is expected to barter, hard laborers are surprisingly venerated within the culture. Not a man alive, according to your average Vykhan, would ever feel satisfied in a line of work such as masonry. Though while much of the culture keeps a lens pointed toward the work day, luxury isn’t quite looked down upon. In fact, its celebrated… as long as you’ve worked for it. Retirement isn’t a thing uncommon amongst Vykhans, and is very possible in such an environment as Vykha, where everyone makes each other wealthy.
