Races of the Land
Before we get to the countries of First Light, let's talk about the races of the land with a short description of who they are and what they do or represent.
• Human - The most common race in all of First Light. Humans are industrious and can be found in just about every sector of society.
• Elf - Elves come in multiple subtypes and depending on which subtype we're talking about will determine where they are generally found.
o High Elf – High Elves can be found in the aristocracy in Kingdoms such as Arcadia and Avocath. They often consider themselves better than humans and other elves who they see as inferior. High Elf adventurers are often those that have turned from the general High Elf mindset.
o Wood Elf – Wood Elves are rarely found in the cities and towns of major civiizations instead preferring to live in small nomadic groups in the forests and dales of Alten Daramud, Lifi, and Skovah.
o Dark Elf – Another rare to see variety of elves, Dark Elves live in large kingdoms deep within the world Underdark region. The rare Dark Elves you see are often adventurers or traders.
o Eladrin – Eladrin Elves are found in the Feywilds but can be found in most large countries in the world in small numbers.
o Sea Elf – Sea Elves live amongst the Tritons in their underwater kingdom.
o Shadar-Kai – Shadar-Kai strictly live on the Shadowfell. Any met on the material plane are exiles turned adventurer as they are not accepted anywhere else in the world.
o Psi Elf – Psi Elves are rarely found in the world, the majority of which inhabit the College of Mystics Tower.
• Half Elves – Half elves are typically a mix of elf and human and are likely the second most populace race in the world and like humans can be found in just about every position and trade.
• Dwarf – Dwarves are another common race on First Light, originating in kingdoms from under the mountains of Alten Daramud and Technica. They come in two subraces based on whether they stayed below ground or have moved above ground.
o Sun (Hill) Dwarf – These are the dwarves that live above ground and specialize in selling dwarven goods and armor, working as temple clerics, soldiers, and so on.
o Mountain Dwarf – These dwarves live strictly underground in grand kingdoms.
• Gnome – Gnomes are a race that specializes in technomancy, while they can be found around the world the largest concentrations are located on Ars Technica.
• Orc – Orcs either live in the Greenleaf Nation on Taro and revere the goddess Allora and the god Yhor or live in one of the many strongholds in the world and focus instead of lives that revolve around raiding and pillaging.
• Half-Orc – Typically the children of human women who were assaulted by Orcs (though not always), half orcs are uncommon in most countries. They aren't treated badly as as less than however.
• Goblinoids –
o Goblins – Like all goblinoids, some are peaceful and live in small towns, some live in raiding parties led by Hobgoblins or a Bugbear.
o Hobgoblins – Peaceful hobgoblins live in small villages hidden from others with magic. Bad hobgoblins can be found leading teams of goblins.
o Bugbear – Peaceful Bugbears tend to live solitary lives.
• Genasi – While rare, occasionally people will be born imbued by the magic of the elemental planes. They can be found anywhere in the world.
• Kobold – Kobolds live all over the world in small dens and warrens. They can either be peaceful and friendly or aggressive. This is based upon whether they are worshipping a dragon and if so, which one they are following.
• Firbolg – Firbolgs live deep in the forests of Lifi and protect the forests from intrusions.
• Goliath – Goliaths are found in tribes around the world, living in the highlands and mountains.
• Dragonborn – Dragonborn are found mostly on Virago only traveling to other countries as envoys, traders, or adventurers.
•Tabaxi – A feline species native to Skovah where they multiple large city-states. They are known for their agility and quick wits.
• Grung – A humanoid frog species also native to Skovah. They live in small communities and are mostly peaceful if you don’t disturb their eggs.
•Minotaur – This large race can be found on Taro though the inborn drive for freedom sends many into the life of an adventurer.
•Giff – Giff are hippopotamus humanoids native to Taro. There aren’t many and they all inhabit a small city.
• Aasimar – Aasimar are generally only born to humans and half-rlves. The divine blessing is said to run in family lines, popping up occasionally.
•Fairy – Fairies and Sprites are only found in the Feywild, finding one outside of the Feywild means something important is happening.
• Harengon – A race of rabbitfolk originally from they feywild they have been found in small villages on First Light. They usually live near a portal or entryway to Feywild.
• Lizardfolk – Hidden deep in the wilds of Skovah and Obscura are the often-maligned lizardfolk. While many are good people, there are some that give into their baser instincts and make them all look bad.
• Satyr – Another inhabitant of the Feywild, Satyr occasionally leaves the wilds in search of wine, food, and fun.
• Shifter – Not very common there are lineages of shifters found around the world. The descendants of people often blessed by aether creatures, shifters come in multiple varieties.
• Tortle – While native to Skovah, Tortle are one of the few beastfolk to become common throughout the world, their sense of adventure combined with their longevity aiding them in spreading around the world.
• Triton – Since the world changed the Tritons have become a force with their underwater kingdom that spans the breadth of the Central Ocean and beyond.
• Hadozee – Like the Tortle the Hadozee originated on Skovah but populations can be found living in almost every country of the world.
• Owlin – The Owlin live on the Isle of Bliss where they have the College of the White Feather, a school for those who wish to learn wizardry.
• Leonin – Multiple tribes live in the Pridelands of Taro. They can also be found in large numbers around Avocath attracted to the large coliseum and the chances for glory and fame.
• Warforged – Warforged, while not common, are often created and employeed by the artificers of Technica. Some however are still functioning relics from a time before.
•Loxodon – The Loxodon live on taro in a single city and are rarely found elsewhere in the world.
• Dhampir – Dhampir are rare on first light but they can be found mostly on Obscura, which used to have a high vampire population before being cut down by the followers of Kay-Ya.
