Painted Fleet Parade
Students in Vira have four weeks off of classes each season, and during the summer they typically spend time in groups modifying and painting speeders for the Painted Fleet Parade.
Execution
Those chosen to lead the parade begin the festivities with a few word to the audience. Then, the parade begins. The fleet exits the hangars and flies in lines and other formations designed to shown off their artwork. The speeders typically do a few circuits around the Cornerstone, the Viran mothership, before the end of the parade. The main event is followed by a reception so the teachers and parents of the students can congratulate them on a job well done.
Components and tools
Used speeders are the primary component of the parade. Community members will donate their old speeders to groups of students to be shown in the parade. Students will sometimes modify the speeders in order to create light shows, using scavenged speeder parts and electronic components. And of course, a lot of paint is used as the students show off their artistic talents.
Participants
Students do much of the work organizing the parade, as well as providing the content (the speeders). Groups decide on their own pilots, participants vote on who will lead the parade, and student leaders determine the order the speeders will be shown. Teachers and parents are expected to only become involved when specifically asked for aid.
Every Viran is invited to attend the parade. Students with friends from other nations are encouraged to invite them and their families.
Observance
The months of the Viran calendar, and thus the timing of their 'seasons,' are based on the placements of the originally inhabited planets of the star system in their orbits (Yllia, Roquan, and Largo). When students receive four weeks off for summer vacation, the Painted Fleet Parade is scheduled for the end of those four weeks.
