Sleep of the Gods
The planet Largo wasn't always a planet of islands and archipelagos. It once had vast continents, and empires the feuded over the land.
Armies once had battalions of magic users, whose Gravanite constructs determined the strength of their forces.
The Largic people once knew where Gravanite Affinity came from.
The Largic gods of the Gravanite Pantheon loved their people. But wars between empires proved to the gods that their people could not be trusted with the power and knowledge they were given.
A gathering of the ten divine beings ended with a unanimous decision. The gods would Sleep, and during their dormancy their people would forget them. And they would only be awoken when someone Worthy discovered their resting place.
So, the gods prepared to sleep. Each made their own Laws to determine whom of their people would earn Affinity with their color of gravanite. They said their goodbyes to the mortals they still held dear. And they readied the scene of their hibernation.
The gods slept. It was catastrophic.
The sea levels rose and the continents sank. Entire empires were drowned in a moment. The peaks of mountains were torn off in midair, leaving stony islands hanging in suspense and giving birth to the Floating Archipelagos. Storms raged across the new oceans.
And the people forgot their gods.
Manifestation
The Gravanite Pantheon was more connected to the physical planet of Largo than the people knew. When the gods became dormant, much of the dry land on the planet was submerged. The warring empires on the continents were washed away.
Localization
Though the magic of gravanite works just as well on any planet, the ore itself originates on Largo. Thus, Largo was the planet that was devastatingly affected by the Sleep of the Gods.
