Desert Sinkholes
As we all know, during the apocalyptic times, people lived in underground settlements, a lot of which were located in Desert. As soon as they could, moles left the underground and populated the surface. Though there still are many underground settlements left in Desert, the majority of them were left abandoned. Over time, many of the walls and ceilings of these settlement have deteriorated and collapsed, leaving behind sinkholes scattered across Desert.
Where and how to find them?
These sinkholes are scattered all across Desert, but are pretty hard to see when you’re approaching them. Usually, you will only notice them when the sand is already sliding down from under your feet, dragging you down with it. At that point there is probably no escape.
For the most part, people know better than to wander aimlessly into the unexplored desert, but there will always be people drawn to the risk of it. Several people have already been lost to these sinkholes, never to be seen again.
Because of how easy it is to just be swallowed by the ground and disappear, it’s safe to assume that these sinkholes have contributed a lot to the legend of The Stomach. It is, of course, very possible that the stomach actually lives down there in the abandoned caves.
What can be found down there?
As a region that has been abandoned and mainly untouched for centuries, this is now one of the important archaeological spots. It holds many ancient artifacts that tell a story of the lives people lived during the darkest of times down there. The numerous caves are in various states of disrepair. Some are completely caved in and destroyed, while some sinkholes lead to large, well-preserved underground dwellings and settlements.
These caves are full of ancient items as well as some rare species of plants and animals that have evolved differently in these areas cut off from the rest of the world. There may or may not be the stomach lurking down here as well, so you have to be careful. These underground caves are also full of rare precious stone deposits that attract the gem collectors.
But apart from archeologists, biologists and gem collectors, these caves also attract many adventurers who come here, just to be able to say that they did. But if you do come here for any reason, be careful not to end up as another cautionary tale of someone who fell into a hole and disappeared forever.
