Genders

Backstory

The root of the gender problem lies in the very creation process of the comic. The comic was intentionally created in the style, that is as minimalist as possible. And because of this, drawing men was ever so slightly more minimalistic than drawing women, and as a result majority or created characters ended up being men. Despite later attempts to fix this, the issue persists to this day. The ratio between men and women was estimated to be approximately 20%-80%.

Gender problem in comic world

People of our world experience this problem differently. It is speculated that this unusual disparity between genders is caused by a genetic malfunction. While scientists of the past did an outstanding job genetically engineering this new species of humanoids, it was not without problems which occur to this day; one of them being this gender issue.

Furthermore, the issue seems to be even more serious when we look at the fact that there are no female blank characters. As all the moles are created from the blank characters, it is hard to imagine where exactly the true women may come from. Some believe that this means that there are no true women in the world, though much evidence clearly shows otherwise.

Solving the gender problem

To not let this be a problem, moles have resorted to a rather unusual solution: a lot of men take on the role of women for their straight male partners. They dress up as women, and live as such to various extents. Some completely take on their new female identity, while others might dress up as women but still wish to be considered men. Then again there are those who have decided to fully take on their new female identity to the point of not even acknowledging the male part of their gender. These people from a whole new gender, or more accurately, they are considered not to have a gender at all. They are most comonly considered to be genderless women, or just genderless, oftentimes it even gets pointed out they are really men. The latter may come across somewhat crass, but since molekind hasn't been able to come up with a good label for their gender, or complete absence of it, any of the mentioned works just about as well as the other ones. However, it is customary that these people come up with their own label, one they will be most comfortable with. These range form uncomfortabtly descriptive such as "down there I'm still a boy", to more verbose yet vague "yes. both. neither. i don't know. yes.". Some choose to keeps things simple with only a "hm", but some who don't want people sticking their nose into their business might surprise you with a sassy "none of your goddamn business". When it comes to pronouns, they may also choose the ones they are the most comfortable with. For the most part, they take on female pronouns that come with their new female appearance, but some still feel more comfortable with male pronouns. Along with their new preferred gender, they also pick a new feminine name, though some feel more comfortable with a gender neutral name, or even keep their male name, depending on to what degree they want to take on a new feminine identity. This usually happens during one's high school years. Especially in rich areas, gender and name change are celebrated by a gender reveal party, where the young person comes out to their close ones as their new chosen gender.

There is some debate on how much this solution actually is. Despite some being willing to fully take on the identity of women, for most, if not all of them this is more of an aesthetic decision, rather than gender identity issue, and at its core, these relationships are still considered just relationships between two men by some. Some men aren’t happy with that and only want to date true women. Still the majority of people are more open to it, and don’t think it’s right to discredit any woman, no matter if she is or isn’t a true woman, and no matter how she wishes to identify herself. But as long as there are this many men actually ready and willing to denounce their gender and live as genderless and enough men who want to date them, there’s not much sense in questioning this situation. Over the centuries of these pratices, the society has grown accustomed to this lifestyle, and is slowly leaving ideas of genders and sexual orientations behind altogether.

Men usually choose this role freely and to an extent they are comfortable with, but this is in any case considered a great sacrifice for the good of molekind. Though this is a great and honorable deed, true women are also considered very valuable due to their rarity. Maybe even moreso, due to their ability to bear children and advance the survival of the mole race. When it comes down to people’s varying opinons and preferences, both true and genderless women have their own rightful place in the mole society.

Tradition of Drag Queens

Some people however, believe that these genderless women are worth more than they get credit for. As some ancient writings say, these people would get a royal status in ancient times, being titled as no less than queens. Or, drag queens, as those ancient documents would state. Many believe that these ancient practices and tradition don’t hold much bearing in today’s modern society, but people in rich areas, who have enough money to afford such eccentricity, still keep these values alive and well.

But, as the society has undeniably advanced through the ages, so did these traditions. Today, the true value of drag queens lies in peculiar reproductive properties of molekind. It’s not only women who can bear children, but also male fairies. And fairies, being Glitter God’s servants, only wish to marry the most worthy of moles. Those, of course, being drag queens. Who are actually biologically men, and as such have the ability to get fairies pregnant. Surely everyone would like their son to marry a fairy, but this is especially important to rich families. They value high status in society, but alas, the money alone won’t guarantee this status. Because of this, many chose to raise their boys as girls, in hopes of getting them married off to a fairy. They dress them in fine pretty dresses, have them educated in arts, philosophy and Glitter Bible studies, and have them participate in beauty pageants for little princesses. They are not to be just ordinary women when they grow up, they are raised to be true queens worthy of a fairy spouse.

Many people outside of these rich areas don’t agree with these practices. They prefer to let their sons choose the life they wanna live, and are not as concerned with acquiring high status in society. They feel like the rich mothers are unreasonable, too pushy, wanting to push their sons in a high pressure lifestyle they want, but don’t consider their son’s feelings. And it’s true, while many accept their role in society and follow the only way they know how to live, there are many who aren’t as happy with their situation. But, the majority still seems to be in favor of this lifestyle, so this is one of the highly valued traditions that isn’t likely to die out easily any time soon.
