Herbal Gardens
Brief History of Medicine
The species of mole people has endured surviving in brutal conditions in apocalyptic years, as well as a whole lot of genetic “modification” throughout the ages. This resulted in one of the strongest species with the most resilient immune system this far. Because they rarely fall ill and even more rarely seriously ill, medicine was never a very important field in New World. Most ailments that may afflict moles can usually be medicated with nothing more than a simple home made herbal remedy.
For a long time in the past, it was common for people to prepare those for themselves; in post-apocalyptic world people had to make due with what they could find and were left to fend for themselves, which applied to health matters the same as to everything else. Only for more serious problems of injuries they would seek out help for fairies, who are trained in the skill of faith healing, bestowed upon them directly by Glitter God himself.
Herbal Gardens Then and Now
As the time passed, society and people’s lifestyles have changed. More and more convenient shops and services were being established for people to rely on instead of having to always rely only on themselves. During this time the fairies, always known to be gardeners and healers, started building these herbal gardens - mostly in Ä+*4~, but many can be found in T@Ö#Ä3 as well.
They started by growing and selling herbs to people for convenience, so they wouldn’t have to grow or forage for their own herbs. People soon noticed the improved quality of these herbs, grown and taken care of by benevolent fairies.
Besides growing herbs, fairies were always happy to advise people about how to use them and how to prepare their own medicine, as well as giving general health advice. They would still offer emergency service to everyone in need. For even better convenience, they also started making and selling already prepared medicine there, for better convenience to people in need of help.
In the years to come, these herbal gardens became well established as what they are today. They serve as herbal shops, apothecaries and first aid spots for people in need. Here you’ll find herbs, medicine and literature on herbal remedies and general health. Many of these gardens welcome people who want to come here to relax and meditate, some bigger gardens may even offer services such as aromatherapy. If you know where to go and who to talk to you may even be able to buy poison or drugs, but you’ll likely have to go to T@Ö#Ä3 for that.
General Architecture
Herbal gardens all have the same basic layout, but may still be very different from each other. All gardens basically consist of a building in the middle of herbal gardens, but here’s where the similarities end. The herbal gardens may vary greatly in sizes, and each garden grows different kinds of herbs. These usually depend on the area of the world but also personal preference of the fairies working there. The services provided there also vary depending on the size of the garden. Some are just a small apothecary and herbal shop, while the bigger ones provide various medical services. The buildings themselves differ greatly as well. Not only by size, but also architectural style - they usually fit the architecture of the area they’re located in. Lavishly decorated houses can be found in Fairy Gardens, yellow building with arched hallways fit in to Ä+*4~ and T@Ö#Ä3 will settle for simpler greenhouses made of iron and glass.
What About Hospitals?
Keep in mind though, some ailments can’t be cured with only herbal tea and essential oils so hospitals with professionally trained doctors are still very much needed in New World, though not nearly as much as in the past. With all the modern technology, hospitals are often essential in diagnosing the patient properly and treating them for more serious conditions or injuries. However, herbal gardens are still the first go-to option for people and are a lot more common throughout the world. Fairies there are very kind and helpful and will direct you to a nearest hospital if they deem it necessary.
