Hosting of the show
The show is hosted in whichever is considered to be the capital of a certain area, the biggest shows are in Central District of Å+*4~, and West T@Ö#Å3. The show is hosted by different hosts each year, usually celebrities or hosts of town square shows of each area.
The show features a combination of live performances of the nominated and winning musicians and, of course, giving out awards. The awards given out are standard Golden Bald Mermaids+.
Awarding
The awards are given out to the winners by the hosts, and they are given out for categories such as:
- best solo artist
- best band
- best new band/solo artist
- best song
- best video
- best [music instrument]**
- best [music genre]**
- best choreography
- most successful musician of the year
- etc...
**This usually includes different categories that may be different from town to town, sometimes depending on the town’s own traditional instruments and music genres. Most will have basic categories like best guitarist or drummer, but in Wasteland they may include stuff like household appliances, and Fairy Garden might include things like wind chimes. Same goes for music genres, besides standard things such as rock or indie disco, each town may pick out some of their own music genres more popular in certain area. These can even change from year to year, depending on the popular music at a certain time.
There’s 3 nominees per category, and only one is chosen as the winner. Of course, you can be nominated for multiple categories and win in more than one category as well. When is comes to bands, only a single member may win an award - this applies to specific awards such as best guitarist, best singer and similar.
All of the nominees are chosen based on their achievements up to the past year and a half. Preferably the achievements of only the past year are considered, but if a certain song, band or anything else only came up 11 or 12 months ago, and so too late to really be considered for the past years award, it will be let through. But let that be enough of nitpickiness for now.
Most Successful Musician of the Year
All awards are important, but there is one that is a little bit more important. To become the most successful musician of the year, you have to be pretty much at the very top of popularity. You have to be the most listened to, the most talked about musician, the most interesting one, and the one who made the most profit in the last year. Of course, it’s nearly impossible to be at the top of everything, and the battle for the best can be quite intense. But winning this award doesn’t only mean a shiny bald mermaid trophy. Almost always, the one who won this award is invited to represent the area in which they work in the next International Musicfest. The winner may decline this offer, but they almost never do. After all, representing your own homeland and being recognized by the whole world is really what any musician would wish for the most.
Since these awards take place only a few weeks after the International Musicfest, the chosen musicians have nearly whole year to prepare their performance for the Musicfest.
