King Metric
King Metric was one notable ruler of the Kingdom of Astania back when the kingdom was still a tenth of its current size and standardised units of measurement were unheard of.
King Metric was responsible for, among many other things, the creation of the Committee of Units and Measures. The man had many visions for the future of his kingdom, and most of them started with being able to measure things in the exact same way across the entire land. Thanks to this kingdom-wide standards, Astanians were the first to develop mass production of goods, weaponry, and sea vessels. King Metric's ingenuity (and passion for numbers) enabled the Kingdom of Astania to develop at a (precisely measured) much faster pace than its neighbours, and so, by the time the king passed away, they had quintupled their area and population (the exact numbers were more like a 5.3x increase in area and 4.89x increase in population, but those figures are rarely quoted outside of Measurers' circles).
In recognition of his measuring initiative, the standard unit of measurement for height/size was named after him. King Metric had been much shorter than the average person since birth, a feature he was highly proud of, so he determined that his height would be the basis of the new measurement, the "metre".
