The Valois Dynasty
The Valois are the ruling family of the Kingdom of Neponia. They have ruled the place for such a long time that they have more or less earned the right to say they descend directly from gods (their religion says so. Not that they control that religion or anything...).
Throughout the centuries, the Valois had many prominent members. Every monarch left their own mark, and their royal relatives sometimes aspired to greater things than their rank suggested.
However, the recent reign of Queen Morgana de Valois eclipsed all of those achievements. The fact that the kingdom survived her rule with only their international reputation ruined is nothing short of a miracle.
Queen Morgana de Valois ascended to the throne when she was only 16 years old. She married her first husband at the age of 17, and had him killed six months after their child was born. Rinse and repeat another eight times, and Queen Morgana de Valois gained a reputation of a Black Widow, which somehow made people more likely to marry her instead of running away from her marriage proposals (likely because they wanted to be "the one" who made her change her ways, which never worked because Queen Morgana de Valois really had no heart and was thus incapable of loving a partner).
Only Queen Morgana de Valois's tenth husband escaped the fate of his predecessors, though not because this particular husband capture the queen's heart. She just happened to be 43 years old by the time her child with the new husband was born (which was somewhat of a miracle in itself), and she figured she was too old to have an 11th child, so she had no reason to go through the trouble of killing this husband to get another one.
To Queen Morgana de Valois's credit, while she was busy marrying, having children, and killing spouses, she also managed to have an abysmal track record in other aspects of her ruling, with the kingdom's wealth, wellbeing and security falling to unprecedented levels while she personally grew richer. Her lack of concern for the general population (which was not that different from her lack of concern for the lives of her husbands) eventually led to her own family (that is, her already-grown-up children, because husbands were all dead save for one) conspiring to kill her.
Queen Morgana de Valois was eventually killed by her second child, Sir Tybalt de Bucheres de Valois, at the unexpectedly old age of 57. After weeks of mass celebrations inside and outside the kingdom, Queen Morgana de Valois's heir-designate was crowned the new queen. Queen Ella de Forrest de Valois was only 15 years old, being the previous's queen youngest child with her surviving husband, but the kingdom was sure that even a child could rule the land better than their Black Widow queen.
Good thing they were mostly right...
