Thwēdu

Write about something that can be seen in the night sky. What is it named after?   ______   Thwēdu is named after a mythological creature said to live in the deep red seas. According to myth, the creature pulses hypnotizing lights at seafarers. The lights either are beguiling or seizure inducing depending on who is telling the tale and who felt the impact of the lights. This trait is imitated by the sky phenomenon, which thrums with red light at unknown intervals.

Manifestation

Thwēdu manifests as an oily red glow between Sohitlī, the largest moon of the Iun continent, and Kednu, the smallest moon. Thwēdu appears as an oily red spill across the broad night sky and is most prominently visible from the coastline, but at high altitudes in the city of Iun itself the phenomenon is also clearly visible.    During Thwēdu, magical abilities relating to the lores of Rot, Blood, and Lightning are able to manifest at a higher skill level than is usual. A novice of the Lore of Lightning will be able to cast spells at an apprentice level, for example-- though in the world itself there is no leveling of "spell levels" as such.

Localization

In the areas of the continent which are directly beneath Thwēdu as it occurs, all light cast at night appears to flash red, and possesses the same oily quality as the light-web itself in the sky.    The city of Iun is impacted differently by Thwēdu. In the bowels, for example, the air actually becomes cold as the flesh and ground chills from some external magical power. Aboveground, Thwēdu pulses with intermittent light that shoots down oily strands as if it is the pulse of nerves. Below ground, there are spasms of muscle, contractions not unlike the beating of a heart.
