Wuiya Peninsula

The lands of the Dàni are low and swampy, so it's no wonder they named this peninsula "raised". The Wuiya Peninsula is one of the two arms that create Levaebu Bay, and defines the southern edge of the eastern branch of that bay, known as the Eastern Horn.

There's a bit of a stigma about people who live on the peninsula. They are thought of as haughty, and it's said they think they're "too good" for the rest of the Dàni. Part of this is because their land is a lot drier and the cliffs separate them from the sea. They use fish skin in their clothing less often and occasionally make comments about how uncouth and old-fashioned it is when in other parts of the region. This is also where the capital city is located, furthering its reputation as being disconnected from the common folk.

Despite this reputation, it's mostly only true of the urbanized residents of the larger towns. Residents of small villages along the cliffs have perfected a practice they call "long line fishing", in which they fish from the tops of cliffs. The classic image of rural Wuiya is to see a long line of men and women standing along the cliffs, rods in hand. In the summer, cliff-diving is a popular sport along the northern coast, into the bay.

The southern coast is less populated, as its heavily forested. These cliff faces are home to the same oceanic bats that inhabit Nai Island, and sailors approaching the coast after a long journey sometimes wonder if they're hallucinating when the rock seems to shift and ripple, not realizing it's actually a dense wall of roosting bats.
