The Known World

Although the current state of technology makes contact between distant parts of the world very challenging and rare, contact from ages past has led most societies to have at least a basic awareness of the shape of their continents and what else is out there.

The world, which has many names in many languages, is made up of one large landmass, with large islands along its southern coast. The sea to the east is filled with small volcanic islands and to the north, a small mountainous area covers the north pole. Although they are connected, the land is divided into three continents: Pampia, Cuyania , and Kaabara. The Khanty Sea sits between Cuyania and Pampia, and acts as a transition zone between the regions. Which region it is part of depends on who you ask - as well as when in history you ask.

Academics have calculated the size of the world based on the horizon and curvature of the planet, but no known sailor has ever circumnavigated it. The Rheic Ocean to the east and Pharusic Ocean to the west are presumed to join somewhere on the other side of the world. Some people believe there is more land out there - the legendary Lost Kingdom, perhaps, but this has not been confirmed.
