Downfall of the Utopia

Most of the party managed to distract Constable Dennis while Henrietta managed to reach the interior door controls and opened them. Noises could be heard of the vast amount of roden running free into the open.

The intercom comes on. The Mayor's voice comes through with immediate agitation, "Dr. Sordove? Dennis? I have reversed whatever was done to our radios and intercoms, so tell me now, what is going on?

A different voice comes through, one that is feminine and bitter, “Constable Dennis, you twit! Everything has fallen apart because of your failure to do one simple task: maintain the experiment! Your muscles will be better served hauling equipment as an unfortunate! I’ll have Sergeant Elysian inform your loved ones on your… sudden absence…”

”Terrible news, indeed, Constable. Regardless, Doctor, we ought to discuss curfew to better catch these culprits. Things have gone awry ever since those Thomters got loose and they have had assistance, which explains the degree of this travesty!”

”I’ll inform Chief Constable Stottard the news while you rally City Council. His prized ‘juggernaut’ was probably convinced to open the doors with that imbecilic head of his! May as well include the rest of the lowly staff for safe measure.”

The intercom finally clicks off.

Henri spoke into the now functioning intercom system, telling both Mayor Bertram and Dr. Sordove, “Get ██████.” She also broke some of the equipment, taking a glowing power source for the room.

Constable Dennis fell into despair hearing that, not only was he deemed an unfortunate, but so were his fellow guards and scientists there. He ran off, hoping to make amends as cleanly as possible.

The Machine’s Foreboding

Outsiders... interlopers... unfortunates... I know what follows you. I have kept the darkness at bay for so long and ever since your presence has been here, the shadows have gotten so close! It is looking and searching everywhere, trying to delay putting its destructive claws through the grates of the furnace! City Council is in denial of this fact but I will not lose the light! The city must survive and I will do what I must to ensure the path of progress is unhindered by these nihilistic abominations!

— The Machine

Abbott’s Episode

The lights of the facility begin to flicker. There is a familiar voice, one of the Shade, "They know... They all know! The shadows are closing in!"

The lights, now filtered with grayscale lighting, come on. Behind you, Abbott, those you called friends, now appear grotesque and clear with malice in their eyes. You know where the doors are! Reaching them will absolve you of them!

Abbott ran off from the party but managed to make it through the exit doors. The party didn’t see anything and tried to slow him down seeing his odd state of mind.

Loose Ends of the City

Evander’s Walk Home

As Henri’s friends were making preparations to move to East Harrow, Evander was snagged by Dr. Sordove for this operation. He had expressed interest in alchemical practices and that was enough to catch the Doctor’s attention. From there, he studied the effects of overpopulation on the roden but his focus was moving specimens by sedation in and out of the main facility for testing.

The effects and stress brought onto the roden were unnerving: mothers were simply neglecting their children, some were feral and would chew each others tails in a fight, and the oddest of all were those who sat on the sidelines and just kept to themselves with little social ability.

Constable Dennis’ Decommission

Yohgrï followed saw Dennis enter his home and even followed him up. Dennis tried to mention to his mom that he would need to be far away from the city for a long time. Unfortunately for him, his mother knew and called the constabulary on him. Saddened by the news, the constables ushered him to run off as they knew he was a good-hearted man.

East Harrow Developments

The Forester Speaks

The Forester spoke to Setesk via telepathy and expressed interest in finally doing the operation. The problem was deciding on who would do the task of cutting his mouth free from the odd smudging. Setesk and Arnsley bickered over the other because of distrust. Ezmerelda stepped in to do it with the help of Radovan to shut the two of them up.

The party initially found Ezmerelda and the Forester doing vocal lessons while Arnsley and Setesk stood off to the side to cool off.

Meeting Stellan

Before heading into town, she spoke with Setesk. The vician found out about their endeavors in the city and insisted the group leave the city behind and go straight for the beacons. Henri wasn’t keen, as she wanted to leave something good for her friends. She had left them on sorrowful terms and she didn’t want to leave without a word again.

To Henri’s disappointment, Stellan had lost hope during his stay in East Harrow. He looked up to the “Reaper statues” in an odd fantasy of being taken away from this world. He mentioned that Maude had been upset and distant ever since Evander left, which is why he never interacted with her as much.

Henri left. Though, she came across an actor standing in her path. It pointed behind her, showing Evander and Maude in joyful reunion. It then followed behind her, mimicking her actions as she walked on. With a sudden stop, the actor bumped into her. It explained it needed help in acting similarly is all. It was then told to just stay put.

Abbott’s Outcry

For Abbott

Setesk stepped into Abbott’s wagon and mentioned that his Shade patron was dangerous and unstable. The party had been snooping into both Abbott’s and the Shade’s past. To hopefully remedy this, Setesk offered to trade pacts instead with him. His offer was simply to aid him in destroying the traitorous Reaving and Setesk would see to it that Abbott could live out his years to clean things up.

Curiously, Abbott wondered had happened with Abigail. Setesk showed him as much soft details as possible to lighten the misfortune that she had died by his hands. All this conundrum had made the Shade infuriated. Setesk and Abbott made the pact, seeking to punish this deceitful shade. Naturally, this new pact was to be made discreet from the rest.

All the party heard at sundown was a terrible scream coming from Abbott’s wagon. Setesk was seen reappearing through his shadow, looking into the distance yet again. Henri inferred that Setesk must have been involved with the matter. Both her and Yohgrï tried to see what was wrong but Abbott was not in the mood to talk at all.
