Haunting of Blackrot Session 23

Spooks and Crooks

General Summary

Name Class
Abbott Warlock
Clovis Fighter
Henrietta Blood Hunter
Yohgrï Cleric

A New Citizen

Clovis and Henrietta head for the City of Lumencroft. The gates were closed for curfew but would open soon given the hour. Clovis had asked what where the Chief Constable's estate is and only residents of the City would be privy to such information. As such, Clovis placed illusion magic over their paperwork to show Henrietta as one. Seeing her name there, the constables congratulated her on the rare change of going from unfortunate to citizen. Afterwards, the hour came and the megaphones and speakers welcomed the hour with a beautiful morning.

Abbott and Yohgrï stayed behind and conversed. Abbott had brought up a topic about enchantments and illusion, how necromancy isn't the only unpleasant school of magic. He thought about utilizing charms for the party to get what they wanted on the City Council. This was all hypothetical than anything sincere...

For now...
— Dungeon Master

Yohgrï caught up with Clovis and Henrietta, wondering about what was afoot. Henri caught on that Yohgrï had to receive this kind of arrangement at a cost. Stubbornly and to no avail, Yohgrï said nothing about it.

Abbott in the Background

As the party got into the shenanigans in the city, Abbott and Setesk tried looking into the Juniper Forest and what could be there. The issue there was that the Juniper Enclave was fighting with clockworks and now undead have been a recent burden harassing them.

Spooking City Council

Helman Stottard

Clovis branched off to find Chief Constable Helman Stottard at the station. In disguise, he attempted to warn the Chief Constable about the Host and the terrible powers at play coming for the town.

Unfazed, the Chief Constable knew of what the Machine had been speaking about and namely saw Clovis' attempt more as a nuisance than a warning he hasn't already heard.

Reginald Reeves

Clovis came in via disguise with violin and wine bottle in hand. Using an outstanding performance of a song to present to the Head of Recreation, it warned of a coming storm and claiming those who continued to play despite the warning. Reeves was moved by the performance and yet hoped to approve Clovis' material but the dhampir misty stepped out of the room with tears of red down his face and vomiting blood. Only the Fevre wine bottle was left behind.

Henrietta caught up with him, wondering about the odd features. Clovis explained it's part of being a dhampir.

Helenia Sordove

Abbott tried his hand this time. He went to the University and found the head scientist. Interrupting her procedures, he too, threatened her about the coming darkness if City Council did nothing. He then promptly thunder-stepped his way out the windows after tucking himself inside the Bag of Holding and landing onto the ground.

Dorothy Helmsbrooke

Clovis dropped off the Bag of Holding into her office, playing it off as if he had forgotten something. Once deployed, Abbott stepped out and threatened the Head of Commerce about the coming storm as well. However, Clovis also aided the intimidation by sending his echo in, though the clockworks tirelessly dispatched it with each summon.

Abbott did the same thing with Dr. Sordove. He Thunder Stepped and hopped out in the Bag of Holding and left City Hall in a massive disorder of confusion.

A Revolutionary Meeting

Henrietta and Abbott headed to the meeting area while Yohgrï and Clovis stayed by the city gates at the front.

At East Harrow's governor's estate, the party met with Edelson and the tiefling revolutionary Zerthos. Before anything could have happened, there was an uninvited guest...

Stepping into the room, past the attendant, is Chief Constable Helman Stottard, "Gentlemen. You wouldn't be having a discussion of change without a member of City Council would you?"

Yohgrï and Clovis came with the Chief Constable to the meeting through an indirect invitation by Yohgrï.

Regardless, the meeting proceeded on. Edelson is a moderate who wanted to keep the foundation the City has but change things up so it allows better people to operate the system. Zerthos wanted a complete tear down of Lumencroft's hierarchy so workers could take charge. Stottard simply wanted a change in leadership to better serve as the security of the city, favoring a simpler change. It was agreed that reforms in the system would take place, defaulting to Edelson as the leader (though, this choice being a placeholder than final decision) for his governing experience.

In order for a successful revolution, Stottard's insights allowed for a more precise takedown of the core threat to change, that being the Machine. The Revolution must target the following:

Clockwork Factory. Self-explanatory in nature, the Clockwork Factory's destruction would mean less durable clockworks to come to City Council's defense.

Power Station. A controversial target but it would mean removing power from the clockworks, causing the machines to tire and exhaust without access to recharging. Stottard's insights means that he knows where to target so that only the key areas get withdrawn from power.

The Party began itching to thwart Bertram's plans in the Juniper Forest, potentially gaining allies from the Juniper Enclave. Zerthos' band of revolutionaries would target the power station during this time.
