Duksuthers

The Duksuthers are a collection of four independent dukedoms that once swore fealty to the Gith Diarchy, and now maintain a mutual defense pact; Ragan, Chatza, Morien, and Ckloom.   They were originally founded as penal colonies, where nobles exiled from the high society of the Diarchy would be sent to rule over the local taciteri and kuagsak. Due to its poor soil, the Duksuthers rely heavily on agrarian imports to feed its people. Additionally, there was only a single mountain pass which led directly to Gith territory. These factors all culminated in a situation that allowed the Gith Diarchy to easily exploit the four dukedoms.   In an ironic twist of fate, the pass that connected the Gith Diarchy to the Duksuthers was buried under an entire mountain's worth of avalanche. The Gith were unable to excavate a new pass, and so the Duksuthers turned to Soficce as a trading partner. Their oaths of fealty to the Gith, once expired, were never renewed by future generations of Duksuthers nobility.   Eventually the Duksuthers made a mutual alliance, swearing to remain independent from one another, but uniting under a single banner against external threats. As a result, the Duksuthers maintains the only standing army among the nations of the Folklands.   As the Duksuthers do not serve a single monarch, there is no official capital. Morien has the highest populace and the biggest port city of the four. It was also the dukedom which once contained the mountain pass to the Gith Diarchy, so it is considered by many to be the central hub of the Duksuthers.   The Duksuthers do not formally practice Visitism, as the religion is often associated with the tyrannical rule of the Gith Diarchy. There is the occasional small chapel of Visitism scattered throughout the major cities, but most of its citizens practice a perrenial amalgam of Visitism, kuagsak Animism, and the taciteri's Santa e Kali.
