The Nereus Cyclone

It is located in the south of the Nereus Isles and in the north of the The Western Passage. No one knows much about this natural phenomenon. It is believed to be very ancient and omnipotent, while there are a number of mysteries surrounding it.

Manifestation

The cyclone can be seen at all times, although there are rumors claiming that it becomes especially deadly and menacing at night. It is not known for how many years it has been there, but it's state has not changed since the migration two generations ago when it was first discovered. It is the only known cyclone in history that has persisted for such a long time. It's range is huge, with a 3,220 km diameter in the water. It is characterized by strong cold fronts that more often than not, feature narrow bands of thunderstorms and severe weather along with thick fog. Such fronts form west of the circulation center and move from west to east. No one knows how it first came to be or why it was formed. The biggest question is what lies at the bottom however. There have been no records of any survivors that were unfortunate enough to get trapped in its currents.

The Nereids

Not much is known about the creatures residing in the depths below the cyclone, but there are many stories about the Nereids that are said to lurk there. It is hard to get a good look at them and survive to tell the tale. Many criminals or people that Pontus wishes to punish, are thrown into the cyclone to meet their end. When the isles float close to the sea level it is easy to make sure that they will be met with this cruel fate.
