Bane

Bane is the evil and malicious greater deity of fear, hatred and tyranny and dwells in the realm of Banehold. Preferring to plot and scheme, Bane rarely appears to act in a direct manner, instead acting through his worshipers and other various agents.
It is said the god Bane was mortal once, and ascended to deity status with his companions Myrkul (former God of the Dead) and Bhaal (former God of Murder). Together they were called the Dead Three.
It was the mischief of these three which led to the Time of Troubles and the fall of the gods. During that time, Bane was killed by the god, Torm in the city of Tantras. Over a decade later, through the rise of his godson, Iyachtu Xvim, Bane was reborn again, thought diminished in power having lost worshippers to Cyric.
Since his return a few years ago, Bane has curtailed his church's previous tendency toward infighting and power struggles. Among the gods of darkness and evil, Bane's church is often considered the most sane and powerful. With a portfolio that includes power, ambition, and tyrannical control, Bane has many worshippers, and many more in secret.
