Chapter 5: Here there be dragons
The following day, the group received two letters at the inn. One was a summons to the first speaker’s home for dinner in two days’ time, and the other was a summons from Banak Glittergold about a job for the Dwarves of Nesme. They visited Banak at his shack near the abandoned mine, where he tried to hire them for a heist in Mithral Hall. With a plan to steal mithril from an abandoned mine used as storage, Banak hoped to bring the Dwarves of Nesme back in business. The group found this plan dubious at best, and chose to think it over.
Two days later, the party visited First Speaker Gaeron Alondo’s home at the first speaker’s hall. They met with the elderly ex-adventurer turned leader of Nesme and his chief advisor Torun Markon. Impressed by their recent work in the city, Alondo hoped to hear tales of adventure and also pointed out rumours of a dragon in the silverwood to the east. Torun Markon, however, was far more interested in their findings below the pyramid. Sai quickly began questioning his interest, and Keladrien followed up with questions of his own. The situation grew tense, but First Speaker Alondo remediated situation by changing the subject back to their tales of glory, as well as his own. After dessert, Nalzmyr feigned a need to use the restroom and instead investigated the hall. He found the advisor’s office, but did not enter. Upon returning, he was confronted by the advisor who asked if he had found what he needed (to which Nalzmyr said yes, and the advisor only smiled and said “that’s great…). Advisor Markon excused himself claiming business elsewhere, and the group continued regaling the first speaker with tales of adventure. Having entertained the leader of Nesme, the dinner ended and the group returned to hawk’s inn.
The next day, they chose to investigate the dragon and purchased horses and supplies form the journey. They traveled for a week and a half across the troll moors, eventually making it to the silverwood where they tracked down the dragon to some ancient netherese ruins. The dragon turned out to be a gold dragon (named Menexavaloss), and she hired the group to slay a green dragon that had moved into the forest recently. The party agreed and set out to find the dragon’s lair. After some tracking, they found a cave where the green dragon and her wyrmling lived. Battle ensued, with the dragon causing considerable damage to the group with her poisonous breath. Keladrien wounded the wyrmling with several rays of fire, and Nalzmyr nearly slew it with his blade. Afraid to lose her child, the dragon (named Jaerathindryl) tried to convince the group to kill the gold dragon instead (whose hoard was far greater than her own). The party convinced Jaerathindryl to leave the woods instead, lest she lose her child. The young mother dragon agreed and left with her wyrmling, leaving behind a hoard of coins, gems, and several magic items. The group decided to not return to Menexavaloss, and instead returned home to Nesme. Their journey ended, they split the dragon hoard and retired to Hawk’s inn once more.
