Session 39: The Grimoire Infinitus

General Summary

As the party speaks with Elminster, they learn that each of them will need to seek out, find, and earn their own vestige. The first task, is to seek out the Grimoire Infinitus from the deep within Undermountain. The mad mage Halastar Blackcoat has kept it under his watch for quite some time.   The party heads off to Waterdeep to find the entrance to the dungeon. After a little shopping the party is able to make their way to the famed Yawning Portal, the tavern where adventurers go to etch their names in the never ending lore of Undermountain. There they are able to descend down into the depths to figure out where they can find the Grimoire. Upon entering, they are quickly intercepted by none other than Halastar himself. He questions the parties reason for coming and when they play coy with them, he charms Rickard and Rickard promptly spills the beans on why they have come. Halastar, seeming amused, proceeds to do what he does best, puts the party through a test to measure their worth. He opens a portal and the party is able to quickly enter a strange hallway.   They party quickly discovers that they have encountered a puzzle. They find a series of glowing orbs on pedestals that seem to teleport them around and spawn massive beasts who appear for one round to attack them. The party is eventually able to decipher the puzzle and realize that there are in fact three rooms, three pedestals, and three orbs. Once they place all of the colored orbs on the colored pedestals, the beasts materialize as one and the party is able to slay it. Upon defeating it they are presented with the Grimoire which Cormack is able to attune to.   The party promptly makes its way back to Shadowdale where they update Elminster on their progress. There, he tells them to rest up and to head out to the land of the fire giants, where they will go to obtain the Windwalker Ward for Sylas.
