Synopsis
It is a time of tension in the Sword Coast. 15 years ago, a phenomenon known as the Rising Spark blew across the world of Toril. Magic spread across the Material Plane like a tidal wave, and seeped into nearly every living creature. Animals became wiser, monsters became more cunning and deadly, and mortals became smarter. Sages developed new technologies: Firearms, Mechanical Soldiers, even Flying Ships became began to slowly make their way into the world. Similarly, the "monstrous" races of the world became more intelligent, and began to develop much larger communities, even growing to make populous cities. This is where the tensions began.
Radical groups, from the "monstrous" races as well as the "mortal" races, began to get into bloody skirmishes with nearby towns, threatened by the rising power of their new neighbors. In defense, two groups were established. The Sentinel Pact, comprised mainly of some of the major Sword Coast cities, with armies comprised mainly of humans, elves, dwarves, half elves, and metallic dragonborn. Tabaxi, halfings, and gnomes also make up some smaller ranks.
Opposite to them are the Phoenix Legion, comprised of up-and-coming races of monstrous demihumans. Orcs, tieflings, goblinoids, half orcs, drow, and some others make up the numbers. They base mainly in the middle to eastern parts of Faerun.
Our story begins elsewhere, though.
