Mask of Dendallen
Food felt and tasted like ash. The world seemed less colorful. But I...I felt so much more powerful.
Appearance
This skull mask appears to be made from the front part of a demon's skull and it covers the face of the wearer.
Mechanics
Wondrous Item, Very Rare, Requires Attunement
While wearing the mask, an attuned wearer has advantage on all Constitution saving throws and can read all writing. Additionally, the mask has 5 charges and regains all expended charges each day at dusk. As an action, you can expend 1 charge to cast curse, fear, speak with the dead, or the tongues spell, each with a save DC of 16.
Curse
When you place this mask over your face, make a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw. On a success, you are aware of the curse's effects and can immediately remove the mask before it takes hold. On a failure, or if the wearer chooses not to remove the mask, it magically latches on to your face and can't be removed unless targeted by the remove curse spell. You take 5d10 psychic damage when the curse takes hold, and the skin surrounding the mask is riddled with blacked veins and sickly gray skin. While you wear the mask, you cannot smell or taste anything and automatically fail any check relying on smell or taste. Your voice also changes. Use the table below to determine the new voice. In addition, whenever you roll a 1 on an ability check, saving throw, or attack roll, you take 1d10 psychic damage.Voice Changes
- Your voice deepens and does not echo.
- Your voice becomes raspy and overly enunciates consonant sounds.
- Your voice becomes quiet, almost a whisper, but can still be heard as if it were spoken at a normal volume.
- Your voice becomes high pitched, and your laugh maniacal.
- Your words become slurred, as if your tongue is suddenly too large for your mouth, and your spit releases a faint hiss when it escapes your mouth.
- Your voice becomes that of another ally's and changes each time you complete a long rest.
