Session 8: Dr. Jubal's Carnival Report

General Summary

While in the Hillpicket inn, the group spoke with the locals. Mayor Hope Kellar welcomed them personally, as she does with adventurers who come through her town. After conversing with the patrons they gathered information about Dr. Jubal's Carnival, one in particular Goodwoman Aelia had some theories about the sickness and the Carnival.
The group attended the Carnival on the request of Aelia who promised them 50 gp as a reward. As they enjoyed the activities and watched people have fun, things started to take a turn from the creepy. Some people wearing featureless white masks started to follow and imitate them. At some point this group started to get physical and tried to grab at the PC's weapons.
The group finally confronted the Dr. Jubal, who was less than forthcoming and pleasant. Their conversation ended with the Dr. asking them to leave his wagon.
The PCs decided to try and meet up with Goodwoman Aelia as she had requested by the Maze of Mirriors tent at the center of the Carnival. She was not there, so the Players looked for her, when she was found she was shivering and feverish and rambling.

“Fools……listen…remember…someone…mirrors…they…call…us…the…mirrors…"

With this the PCs decided to enter the Maze of Mirriors. At first it was easy enought to traverse, but eventually a sense of foreboding and confusion set in, making the PCs disoriented. They eventually entered a large area surrounded by mirriors. There they found a group of about a dozen people chained to the stone slab with a symbol of a six fingered hand. Among them they found Goodwoman Aelia, and Dr. Jubal. As they freed everyone, one of the villagers started to laugh and clap, his features melted away, and become indistinct like if made of silver putty.

“Is everything you can't understand always a demon amongst you yokels? Nevertheless, you’ve caught me, oh what am I to do?”
“I admit that the rumors about the sickness were inconvenient, but it is the price you pay for the master's gifts. Soon you to will know his blessing.”

Tak (a fiendish doppleganger) started to play her Pipes of the Sewer and summoned a gain rat. The PCs made quick work of Tak, once they came out of the tent they found that the Masked people had ran away, but they had gained the gratitude of both Aelia and Dr. Jubal.
