Flaming Fist

The Flaming Fist is a mercenary company based in Baldur's Gate on the Sword Coast, where it serves as the city's guard. It is one of the most powerful and expensive fighting forces in the Realms, motivated by riches and victory, and promoting order throughout the Realms. The Flaming Fist operates under a strict military hierarchy and rarely recruits local help, except for advisers or guides under normal circumstances. Currently, the Flaming Fist consists of six hierarchical ranks, in descending order of authority: Marshal, the Fist's general; Blaze, equivalent to a major; Flame, an officer serving as lieutenant; Manip, a sergeant; Gauntlet, comparable to a corporal; and Fist, the rank for private soldiers.   Some high-ranking members of the Flaming Fist serve on the Baldurian Council of Four. Most members come from the Lower and Outer Cities of Baldur's Gate or have been given a second chance in life after imprisonment or capture. Regular work and stable wages also attract many less-fortunate people, including adventurers passing through the city. People of all ages and races join the Flaming Fist.   Prospective members must demonstrate basic competencies and physical capabilities for a soldier. While discipline can be instilled during training, strong ethics and morality are also highly valued. However, many soldiers struggle to uphold these ideals over time. The Flaming Fist serves both as Baldur's Gate's military and the police force of the Lower City. Despite the city's reputation for corruption, most soldiers aim to uphold justice and maintain order. At times, they can be merciless in the name of justice, but some may also be prone to corruption and accept bribes.   Recently, the Flaming Fist suffered a great loss as it became apparent that Marshal Ulder Ravengard was in Elturel on a diplomatic mission when a terrible disaster wiped the city off the map.
