Session 10: Another Funeral

General Summary

The fight began with the blight monsters closing in on the characters. Most of the creatures, including the monstrous tree itself, focused on Hedid on the frontline trying to restrain and damage her, while others used ranged needle attacks on anyone they could see. Hedid fought bravely, hacking the enemies with her sword while Damian tried to deal damage from further away with his crossbow. Pock and Cora launched magic attacks from afar. Things seemed to be under control, until one of the blights managed to restrain Hedid. Having difficulties defending herself, she was knocked out soon after. Unfortunately the monsters kept attacking, and after Damian tried his best to stabilize her, but unsuccessfully, this meant a sad but honorable end to the brave paladin.   Meanwhile, Pock was not doing so well either. He was also knocked out with no one around to help him. Thankfully, his will to live was enough to keep him hanging on this time. Cora and Damian managed to finish off the remaining blights so Thorbjörn and Shava, who arrived minutes later, could bring Pock back to his feet.   Still, Hedid was beyond the grasp of restorative powers, so with a heavy heart the Dragon's Bane returned to Blasingdell in order to send the paladin on her last journey to the otherside.

9 Flamerule, 1393 DR (Day 10)

Sister Alonsa in Blasingdell's temple of Tymora prepared a ceremony worthy of the mighty hero for that purpose, in exchange for a moderate donation.   As luck would have it, the group met another adventurer eager to venture into Khundrukar, the secret dwarven stronghold. Kethra the human cleric joined the Dragon's Bane and the journey towards the Stone Tooth resumed on the next day.

11 Flamerule, 1393 DR (Day 12)

Two days later as evening approached, the group had finally traversed through the rocky terrain of the Sword Mountains, reaching a thin patch of forest. Carefully approaching, Shava found recent tracks nearby - a group of orcs heading back towards south, and the hill called the Stone Tooth could be seen some distance away. The heroes set up camp in the forest, away from the path.   In the night during Shava's watch, she heard voices approaching - the orcish warband was returning. The camp was close enough to the path to attract the orcs' attention. They spread out trying to flank the heroes and attack them in their sleep. Thankfully Shava managed to wake up Damian and the group was not completely taken by surprise.   Thorbjörn and Kethra didn't have time to equip their heavy armor which made the battle quite a bit harder, but in the end, the party still prevailed and could return to their sleep after. Cora also managed to play with unknown arcane forces, once again triggering a wild magic effect, which ended with her running deep into the dark forest while blowing out bubbles. Thankfully she found the camp again after the threat was eliminated.

12 Flamerule, 1393 DR (Day 13)

In the morning, the party started approaching the Stone Tooth. A narrow and tricky path was heading towards the top of the hill. The group left their horses hidden and out of sight in a nearby patch of forest and started trekking up the path. Damian sneaked ahead to detect potential dangers, and after some time the path seemed to reach an end, with echoing orcish voices marking a guard post of some sort.   The heroes started carefully planning their infiltration, but it didn't reach a satisfying result before one of the orcish guards approached and commanded the group to leave immediately or else. That advice was not well received, so Shava nocked an arrow and the heroes prepared to attack...
