Defences
Now the city depends on a city militia, anyone capable has to fight to defend the city should it fall into danger.
Industry & Trade
Chicago's main export was fish, the bounty from the Trackless Sea sustaining the town well. However, in the recent couple years, the fish have become increasingly frenzied, causing the town's economy serious harm to the point of almost collapse. Another resource that dried up was from the school, as many would come from all over to attend. After it shut down, the city lost another major income source.
Infrastructure
Chicago right now does not have much in the way of infrastructure. The most it has now is a small dock for its fishermen and a single set of two privies serving as public bathrooms.
Assets
Chicago at one point was a culture hub for the arts. On an island about 15 miles out from the dock sits the location of the former school that made Chicago such a culture hub: The Chicago Institute of Art. This school was at one point both a Bard college, churning out some of the most talented bards and minstrels around. However, the sudden increase in hostility from the fish the last year and subsequent hit on the economy caused it to be shut down. The building is still there, but left to rot. The former headmistress, Nelzu Swift still lives in Chicago, the other teachers and staff left mostly to Neverwinter to find work there. Nelzu still keeps in contact with them. Nelzu is a 5'3' fair skinned human woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. She tends to dress flamboyantly and is prone to whistling. She wants to restore the school to see her teachers and students return, but with the town economy as it is, she's at a loss.
Of the places in Chicago still operating:
On the docks nearby is the Chicago fishing Center, this is the spot that issues fishing charters and will sell bait and buy fish the fishermen catch but don't want.
A small tavern, named The Bard's Tale Tavern operates in the middle of town near the dock. It has a second floor that its owners live in. The building across used to be part of the Bard's tale, a multi level inn but has since been converted to serve as a small residence for some of the remaining citizens. It is run by an older heavyset human male with fair skin and a balding head. He tends to bluster and has several piercings on his face.
A small general store called Trinkets and Baubles operates in the building north of the Bard's Tale on the end of the city's central marketplace. This is now a small general store selling basic supplies. At one point, during the city's heyday this store tended to the many visitors Chicago would get and had a much more expanded inventory. Now it only sells basic supplies. It is run by a half moon elf woman named Naivara Windriver. She is a 5'5" woman with fair skin containing a blue tint, silvery white hair and blue eyes. She tends to pace around her store and she is naturally suspicious of others.
The large building in the south of the central marketplace is home to the city's mayor, Evendur Evenwood. Evendur is a Lawful Neutral Tethyrian human male, as such he has dusky tanned skin, black hair and brown eyes. He has a perfect memory and tends to bluster. He carries himself with a distinctive posture and is protective of the citizens of Chicago.
The remaining buildings have been shut down or converting to living spaces for some of the city's former shopkeepers or older residents.
Spread out farther from the marketplace are many small farms and smaller homes where the city's other citizens live. Running along the coast are the homes of the city's other residents, making up a line for several miles both north and south.
