Flying Fortress of Avernus

The flying fortresses of Avernus are 450-foot-tall structures, shaped like enormous blades of infernal volcanic basalt, used by the archdevil Zariel to oversee her realm. Flying fortresses ferry devils to any of the myriad battlefronts across the plane. Flying devils descend from the fortress' battledecks to bolster armies on the ground and engage their demonic foes.

Fueled by souls drawn from the River Styx, the fortresses are telepathically controlled by a captain assigned by Zariel herself. Inside, the fortresses feature little more than barracks and cargo holds, though some have been modified with unique features over the years.
