Thornspite Citadel extends from the base of the Emerald Pillar, a squat octagonal building topped with grinning gargoyles and many small, round windows. Three concentric rings of walls surround the citadel, only about 12 feet high. While the wall's height may seem a small obstacle to invasion, growing between the walls is a deadly vine called scourgeweed. Scourgeweed is incredibly tough and able to regenerate within minutes. Its thorns can easily rend leather armor and slices flesh to the bone. When pricked, the thorns release an acidic sap that can dissolve metal, wood or stone in seconds. At any given time, up to 1,200 people either live or work within the citadel's walls. The Vertrius noble clan makes its home within this citadel. Above the citadel, the pillar is adorned with arabesque patterns of emeralds.Demographics
