In 1480 DR, a strange and terrible astrological phenomenon altered Toril's moon, changing its gleaming white surface into a hellscape of purple flames. Minions of the dark goddess Shar have tainted the silvery light of Selûne into something dark and sinister. While Selûne writhes in pain, the hearts of men have grown cold and merciless, cursed by the flickering flames of her torment.
