The hungry city

This dangerous region is located near the course of the Bloody River. The whole area between the western section of the river and the eastern hill, also called Doom Hills, is known by this name. From the surface, it is easy to know if you are entering this area, as a permanent mist covers the garden/forest which surrounds it.
At the core of this doomed region, there must have been a city once. A city as old as the metal spirals of the Capital , but much more dangerous. Unfortunately, what is left today is a tangled mess of numenera traps, ancient artefact too dangerous to activate by mistake, and an overgrown garden of dangerous plants and flowers which create a surreal maze surrounding the city. This dangerous mess expands underground even further than what is apparent from the surface, which is the reason for the local mountain range's name.

City Layers

The Misty Garden

The first layer of the city is a dangerous, overgrown garden maze. The maze arrangement is not fixed but in a continuous state of flux. The plants here are fused with the technology available deeper in the city. This mist is created by them and, by itself, is not dangerous. But combined with the maze's changing state, it can quickly disorient anyone who dares to enter, and many of the plants in this forest are carnivorous.

The Dead City

The deeper you get into the Misty Garden, the more dispersed it becomes, with more and more metallic patches and abandoned buildings becoming apparent. This area is arranged in a radial fashion, and clear streets become apparent, all of them converging into a central plaza. This area could be more dangerous than the garden surrounding it. Many old guardians dislike intruders, and any false step could activate deadly numenera. Many sections are collapsed or could collapse upon stepping into them, which gives entry to the last and biggest section of the city.

The Underground Vault

This is a network of tunnels and collapsed sections of the city, which cover the whole area where the city and the gardens are. It is ironically the safest, as the underground fungi and other vegetation are not immediately hostile, and the guardians that roam above do not enter this place. Of course, this is where much of the numenera is located, so a false step could easily kill anyone or give them an even worse fate, depending on the artifact activated.
