Halpoa

Halpoa trees are mighty and wise creatures. According to many pagans, these trees have the intelligence and emotions of a human, but are forever cursed to be trapped in an immovable husk of twisting bark and branches. Polythiest scholars have conducted research on Halpoas through the use of communication spells and were able to confirm the rumors. Despite their intelligence, many colonists chop them down for their extremely light yet sturdy wood.

Explorers in Alterra have never reported an observation of Halpoa seeds despite how common these unique trees are. Many worry that settlers will drive them to extinction, but many others believe that they reproduce every few years. Due to the lack of conclusive evidence for either possibility, no laws have been put in place to protect Halpoa trees.
