Kitsen

"Eyes and voices, to Kin from Gods"

History

The Kitsen are fox-like humanoids, their vulpine features and tails distinguishing them from other Kin. They reside primarily in Foxglade, a gleaming marble tower nestled in an oasis within the harsh Vulpine Wastes. Mysterious and elusive, the Kitsen’s origins are unknown, though they have always been both revered and feared by those who encounter them.

Sigil of the Kitsen

Kitsen rarely travel alone. They journey in pairs, speaking in riddles and prophecies, claiming to be the eyes and voices of the gods. For each correct prophecy they deliver to a new place they visit, they earn a ribbon, which they tie to their arms as a symbol of their growing knowledge and duty. These ribbons are not just marks of achievement but serve as a reminder of their divine connection and the burdens they carry as messengers of the gods.

The Kitsen have been present since before the Sundering and the end of the Deep Night, maintaining their neutrality during the Divine Rift. Their role has always been to act as intermediaries between the gods and the Kin, never choosing sides in mortal conflicts. However, in the days leading up to the Sundering, the Kitsen began urging people to retreat behind walls, warning of an impending calamity. Their warnings were cryptic—either because they did not fully understand the coming event or because they chose not to reveal it.

After delivering these vague warnings, the Kitsen withdrew to Foxglade. As if shrouded by magic, the tower vanished from the world, and no traveler could find it, even when following stars and signs. All that remained in its place was a single stone arch in the desert, bearing an inscription:

"The Heavens retreat, but never forsake. Lost but not gone, the gods will rise."

Now

For decades, the Kitsen were absent, and Foxglade was lost to memory. Yet, two decades ago, Foxglade reappeared seemingly untouched by time, along with the Kitsen. Their prophecies now speak of change in the air and the return of gods—whether new or old remains uncertain. Once again, they travel the lands, offering cryptic wisdom and foretelling a future shaped by divine hands.

To encounter a Kitsen is to face the unknown, for their prophecies are not always comforting, but they are always significant. Their presence signals that the gods, though silent for long, have not abandoned the world—and perhaps, they are ready to rise once more.
