Adamants

The Adamants have existed in one form or another for millenia, predating both the establishment of the courts as well as the settlement of most of the modern nations of Fortis. Their roots trace back to the prehistoric sun cults of the western continent, and they claim that their magical tradition started when the gods themselves still walked the land. According to their doctrine, the first protection sigils were gifted to them by the leader of their pantheon, Zazamus, after he created mankind. The Adamants believe these first magical abilities were given to preserve the world in its pristine condition at the time of creation.   Older, more orthodox Adamant sects shun the use of convenience spells (such as nonny pens) and consider magically hybrid plants and animals to be further evidence of the heresy of modern living. Some even reject mixed fibers, alloys, and recipes with multiple ingredients, claiming that these combinations violate the sanctity of Zazamus' work, in which everything was created separately. However, these restrictive ideas do not reflect the beliefs of a vast majority of modern Adamants.   Nowadays, Adamants demonstrate a pronounced preference for traditional approaches to magic and exhibit a particular nostalgia for region-specific customs and dress. They have a tendency to protect the natural world and avoid both magical and mundane interference in natural processes, to the point where some will refuse modern medical treatment in favor of prayer and old-fashioned remedies. On the other hand, some younger Adamants embrace the use of light glamour spells and the use of hybrid plants for food production.

Assets

The Adamants are the leading purveyor of protection magic for home use and light industrial applications. All cities and most villages have an Adamant shop which specializes in protection spells and sigils as well as region-specific traditional wares and foods. In the back of most shops is a classroom area where magic theory classes are offered for free to anyone who is interested.
