Cleon XIII

Brother Dawn   As Brother Dawn, Cleon XIII was simply present during the trial of Dr. Hari Seldon, the destruction of the Star Bridge, and the trial of the Anaacreons and Thespins.   When Brother Day asks him how he feels during the Trial of the Anacreons and Thespins, Dawn replies that he feels "scared".     Brother Day   On his first day as Brother Day, he held baby Dawn, Cleon XIV, in his arms, attempting to soothe him while Brother Darkness walked to his Ascension. This is the moment that Brother Darkness, Cleon XI, appeared to realize something was wrong with the baby. Perhaps previous babies had never cried in infancy.   We realize much later that he deeply loved Cleon XIV. Perhaps because of this intimate bonding period.   Day was also one of the few Emperors to make the journey to the Maiden, his first hyper-jump XXXX and the first time a sitting Emperor (of the Genetic Dynasty) had left Trantor during his reign.   During his trip, he promised Zephyr Gilat a desalination plant. He made the same promise to Zephyr Halima , and added an imperial global satellite security system, if she would just support him. She refused.   Upon her refusal, he decided to walk The Spiral as other pilgrims did. Not as a form of spiritual sanctification, but as a means to beating Zephyr Halima.   During this journey, he met another pilgrim, a pilgrim who helped him, and found kindness, and humanity, along the way.   However, upon leaving "The Womb of the Mother", he lied to the Zephyr council about receiving a vision. He stated he had seen a "stem, and then three petals" of a flower above him. This was interpreted to be the Birthroot flower. It had vanished milennia before, yet it was an ancient symbol of the Triple Goddess. How had he known about this? The interpretation was that he did indeed have a soul, that just like the Triple Goddess herself, a single deity with three parts, he and his brothers were the same, a single soul, sharing three vessels.   We later find out that he had seen the Birthroot flower in Demerzel's room while she was preparing herself for the journey to the maiden. She had one, an actual flower, encased in glass, from her first trip out to The Maiden. She had brought it along only for this journey.   When Cleon XIV was brought before Day and Dusk after the discovery of his genetic alterations, Day was willing to allow Cleon XIV to live. The recent event of his journey to The Maiden, had changed him. He believed the dynasty needed to bend, so that it wouldn't break. This meant that change was needed, and the genetic diversity offered by Brother Dawn, Cleon XIV, and his survival, was what the Empire needed.   When Brother Dusk refused to go along, an argument ensued. During this argument, Demerzel took it upon herself to take Brother Dawn's life, snapping his neck.   "I am loyal, Empire," she said, "to the Cleonic Dynasty above all else".
